(Material being added daily. Check back frequently)

Hi! I am Peter Hoover and I appreciate your visit to my website. I am running in a Special Election to fill the Council seat vacated by Linda Blechinger. The Special Election will be held on the same day as the General Election, Tuesday, November 6, 2007.

I want to state at the outset that I do not dislike any of the other candidates that are running for Mayor and Council.  I enjoy talking, working with and interacting with all people involved in the city.  But, let's also understand I have major differences with some of the candidates, and agree with other candidates based on what I have seen from them, and how they have gone about their actions.  In my book,  experience is the mother of all certainty.

I live in Auburn.  I do not work in Auburn or in Barrow County.  My daughter is grown and married, and thus does not go to school in Barrow County.  I owe nobody anything.  I am beholden to not a single person. I am accepting no contributions for my campaign - just using my own resources. You can be assured of my ethics guiding me during my tenure on council, should I be elected.

I am running for this seat because I have become disillusioned with the way the majority of the Mayor and City Council have run the City of Auburn. In short, they have run the city like the old MCI “Friends and Family” phone plan. They have not given any concern for the Auburn citizenry and they have only taken care of their “Friends and Family”, fostering a corruptive influence around the City.

City employees who want to speak up about the atrocities that they have witnessed are squelched, either overtly or covertly, with the threat of termination. This is the way to neither run a city nor foster morale in the work place.

I have served on the Auburn Planning and Zoning Commission and currently serve as the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals. I have seen, first hand through the appeals process, how the City manipulates the truth to serve those who are running the show. We need a government where elected officials do right by the City at large, not just by their friends and family members. The “Good ‘ol Boys” have been using the apathy in this city to their advantage, and it has caused great harm. This has been easy to do in a city where adoption of a Code of Ethics has not taken place I  have more on this  website.

The current Mayor, Harold Money has repeated often in puclic and in council meetings that he wants to raise our property taxes.  His protege and former councilwoman / mayor pro-tem and now mayoral candidate Linda Blechinger is behind him on this. Current council members Charles Sewell and Dorissa Shackelford were successful in cutting the budget [and keeping  our taxes from being raised]  in September of '07 during city budget meeting for the next fiscal year.

I pledge to fight to:

  • Not raise taxes
  • Fight Against the proposed skate park
  • structure codes and ordinances to enhance and promote property values
  • Promote commercial development only along the Hwy 29/8 corridor
  • To maintain the rural nature of our city
  • Fight against any relaxation on the commercial vehicle ordinance in order to protect our roads, children and property values

THE ONLY EFFECTIVE GOVERNMENT IS AN OPEN AND HONEST GOVERNMENT.

REPUBLICAN? DEMOCRAT? LIBERTARIAN? CONSERVATIVE? LIBERAL?

You should know what political philosophy your candidates hold. This is a non-partisan election, and therefore candidates do not have to declare a political party. I am a conservative and always have been. Many people call themselves Republicans today that were once Democrats, until the State of Georgia went Republican in 2002 with the election of Sonny Perdue to the Governor's seat, and Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Issakson to the U.S. Senate. Many of these converts, called Rhinos by many, are still die hard Democrats who still vote in that fashion. Don't be fooled!

There has been far too much malfeasence with the elected officials of Auburn, and this has got to stop.

CORRUPT POLITICIANS ARE ELECTED INTO OFFICE BY GOOD PEOPLE WHO DO NOT VOTE!!!

As a former commissioner on the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission, I support reasonable codes and ordinances to help maintain and promote property values. These will also help protect the rural nature of our city as we experience impending growth.

For example, I introduced and worked upon one of the City’s newest ordinances, designed to prevent and stop house packing, where 20 people are living in houses designed for six people at the most.

I want to see economic development along the Highway 29 corridor, and the redevelopment of downtown Auburn.

I am in favor of keeping Auburn parks under the authority of the City of Auburn, and expanding the presence of Dixie Youth.

I am WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGAINST the proposed skate park for Auburn. For more on this topic, please go to the section titled “Planning/Zoning/Parks.
